THS Completes the WBEC Sustainability Accelerator
This month Trojan Health Strategies completed a self imposed sustainability audit and learned so much during the process. THS was a part of the Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBEC) Metro NY and Greater DMV Sustainability Accelerator Program, sponsored by Bristol Myers Squibb. The program began back in July and for the past 3 months, participated in webinars and working sessions designed to help small business become more sustainable and a stronger corporate partner.
I really learned so much as a result of working with the Accelerator and now I have a roadmap for taking THS forward in that direction. Prior to this experience, I thought that environmental, social and governance (ESG)conversations were the domain of consultants focused on helping companies with their ESG programs. I didn’t think that my company was instrumental in helping those same company achieve their corporate goals.
THS values innovation, excellence, integrity and health equity. After learning a bit about the ESG standards that many organizations are aligning to, I realized that there were many synergies. The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) has profiled 77 industries to determine the material risk associated with various ESG areas to financial performance. I had previously not been aware of this framework and recognized it is a significant motivating factor to encourage corporate to transform ways of working. It was clear that there was alignment.
Most significantly, though was recognizing other benefits Trojan Health Strategies offers corporate clients. That the fact that this company exists helps organizations achieve supplier diversity goals. Our deep industry experience and focus on operational excellence helps with risk avoidance and waste reduction. Further, experience in public health functions can ensure that both internal and external business practices are aligned to advance health equity.
So thought it was a lot of work, on top of servicing clients and taking classes, it was an incredibly valuable exercise in that it helped me to see my company in a totally different light. Time well spent. If any of the benefits I have mentioned above resonate and lead you to explore partnering with THS, do reach out.
